Never before has an American team secured this many Gold medals at the BJJ World Championships before. After being named the best Grappling Team of the Decade, Team Lloyd Irvin shows why we are the best American BJJ Team on the Worlds biggest stage. When asked about his success at the Worlds Lloyd had this to say
“This is all a result of a lot of hard work, planning, dedication and our students belief in our systems and processes. Most importantly it comes down to the T.E.A.M philosophy that we’ve instilled into our guys. T.ogether E.veryone A.chieves M.ore, without your team you are nothing! Also we have a bunch of ‘highly’ dedicated coaches that all work towards our goals that we’ve set for the team. This is just the beginning for us, the systems and processes are set, now with these results more people will believe and we will become even stronger!” Lloyd Irvin

On May 18th, 2010 I was promoted to the rank of purple belt by Master Lloyd Irvin. It is a great feeling to be one step closer to my goal, which is achieving my BJJ Black Belt, competing against the best, and becoming the best.
When I heard Master Lloyd call my name and told me front and center, my mind was blank, I was shocked and didn’t believe what was going on. I stood there baffled as he walked on the mat with a my purple belt around his neck. Not to mention all that was going through my mind was the whippings that I was about to get. It’s tradition to do the paddy wagon, and I was not excited for that part at all, and the class was HUGE!
I was overwhelmed with joy, holding back tears….I am proud of myself. I came to Maryland for one thing, and one thing only. I was fortunate to visit during Christmas time in 2008, also during team training. At that point in my jiu-jitsu career, I was injured but that didn’t stop me. I saw the training, the lifestyle and that’s exactly what I wanted, Jiu-Jitsu by day, Jiu-Jitsu by night. I sat down with Master Lloyd and we discussed what my goals were, and what I wanted to do with my career. And for those of you who know him, he can be a very intimidating person, boy was I nervous.
Through all the trials, tribulations, and struggles that I have been through during the past 18 months, it was and is all worth it. Moving here was the best decision I have made. With that being said, I want to Thank everyone who has helped me get to where I am at today. My journey continues, and I am following my path to make my dreams come true.
Team Lloyd Irvin continues to set records and shock the World. Who would’ve thought that in PG County Maryland Brazilian Jiu Jitsu would be rising to such a high level.
No other American Team has ever won as many medals at the Brazilian Nationals as Team Lloyd Irvin did this year. JT Torres was on fire submitting his first
4 opponents. Three submissions were with his trademarked Back bow and arrow choke(<Click Here> To Get A FREE DVD Showing You His Back Taking Secrets) and one match ended in a toe hold submission.
In the finals he battled Team Atos fighter Gilbert Burns losing by 2 advantages.
Here is JT getting his Silver Medal
JT also got one of his biggest wins of his young black belt journey when he met World Champion Lucas Lepri (Allicance) in a match that would decide who would go into the medal rounds. Lucas had defeated JT twice in no gi winning 2-0 both times and had defeated JT recently 5-2 at pan ams. We’ve been studying film, working on strategies and JT was really geared up for this match. There was so much talk about these guys fighting, people saying that JT would never be able to beat guys at that level for years to come etc.
We trained so hard for this match and everything seemed to work out just as planned. JT’s level of play is improving at such a drastic rate it’s scary. There is ‘MAGIC’ happening on the floors in “camp springs maryland” right now. The process, the work, the attitudes, the ‘no excuses’ mindset is just all over! It’s a great time to be involved in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Maryland, DC and Virginia
